Why is my turtle's shell getting soft?
I've read from several answers here that his shell could be getting soft from lack of sunlight. My turtle (a red eared slider) lives outside! In a tank on my front porch, directly under the sunlight. I clean his tank every other day, feed him whole krill a couple times a week, and his other diet every day. His arms, and legs are getting bigger, he's starting to poke out all over!! Why is his shell getting soft?
you should consider fitting a basking light to your tank to make sure it gets plenty of UV rays. as well you can also get calcium dust which you can put on their food to make sure they are getting plenty of calcium. these are the only things you really can do if the shell is just getting soft however if it is discoloured then you need to give them some anti shell rot liquid or medicine. you can get anti shell rot medicine from any good turtle stockist. hopefully this helps you and the turtles live a long and happy life
