Pajama Pants - Guidelines For Caring For Silk Pajama Pants

Silk pajama pants or lounge pants can add some luxury to your evening.  However, when it's time to wash your pants, you want to make sure that this bit of luxury is well treated so it lasts.

When you're taking care of silk clothing, the first thing you need to do is look for the instructions found on the garment tag.  This is where the manufacturer lets you know the best way to wash your garment.  But if there's no tag or it's no longer readable, here are some general guidelines for when you're caring for silk garments.  Please use your own common sense as well, since I am not responsible for issues that may occur when caring for your clothing.

Before you wash your silk garments, perform a spot test with water and mild soap in a hidden part of the garment.  If it affects the garment or makes the color run, take it to a professional for cleaning.  Do not wash it at home.

Some silk pajama pants and lounge pants are supposedly able to be washed in a washing machine.  But to keep them looking their best, it's a good idea to hand wash these pieces instead of machine washing them.  Wash it by hand in cool water with a mild soap.  Be gentle when you wash your garment.  Avoid any wringing or extended soaking.  Silk must be treated with care because it is so delicate.

Drain the soapy water, then refill your tub or sink with clean cool water with some white vinegar added.  Vinegar is a natural laundry booster and fabric softener.  It helps to remove soap residue from the garment.  After rinsing with the vinegar mixture, give the garment one more rinse with plain cool water.  To remove excess water, do not wring out the piece.  Instead, it should be rolled in a clean and dry towel.

Silk's delicate fibers can be damaged by the heat settings on a dryer or by drying the piece in direct sunlight.  If you must dry it using a machine, then avoid the heated settings and use the air dry instead.  Preferably, hang the garment so it dries in a place that does not receive direct sunlight.

If the garment needs ironing, iron it wrong side out while still damp.  Use the lowest or "silk" setting on your iron.

Blotted silk with water, now slightly faded...?

My new grey italian silk dress. There was a small brown spot, I blotted it with water, than dried it with my blow dryer, but now the spot looks a little lighter, and there's a weird water mark. If I dry clean it, will it look good again? :(

Yes the dry cleaners will get rid of the water mark....................
