How to Feed Red Eared Slider Turtles
Red eared sliders are unique in their own way and therefore require different things to take care of them properly. When it comes to their diet you have to make sure that you are feeding them a mixture of both plant and animal materials.
When they are babies they will require more protein from animals. However, it is still a good thing to feed them a few vegetable materials. Don’t be surprised though if they don’t eat much of the vegetation till they are older. When they become adults you can pull back on the animal materials and feed them mostly vegetation.
You can offer red eared slider pellet food. They have a bit a mixture of the right amount of vitamins and minerals. They are sometimes more convenient for pet owners. But this should not be the only thing that you feed them. It is great if you mix their food up a bit to keep them from getting bored and to make sure that they are getting all of the nutrients that they need to be healthy.
Food To Feed Red Eared Sliders
When it comes to feeding turtles you can give them earthworms, live feeder fish (this includes goldfish, guppies, minnows), waxworms, crickets, aquatic snails, daphnia, earthworms, silkworms, mealworms, and blood worms. These should only be given to small turtles. Adult red eared slider should eat larger animal items.
When feeding turtles vegetation stick with collard, kale, bok choy, mustard, dandelions greens, and dark green leaf lettuce. Never feed them iceberg lettuce because it does not have much nutrition.
If your turtle lives in a pond or aquarium you can always add aquatic plants to feed them. They love to snack on submerged plants like frog-bit, water hyacinth, water lettuce, azolla, anacharis, and duckweed.

a TON of aquatic plants questions?
I am planting anacharis in my ten gallon tank. What other plants are easy and good for me? Could you also put the price of anacharis and the other plants? Also what kind of light do you need to grow plants? Also how much would that cost? I am getting a 10 gallon tank from wal-mart for $25 and I'm not sure if it comes with the right kind of bulb. Do you have to buy a seperate bulb? And what kind? Thanks and sorry for all the questions.
It is a tropical tank by the way
The hood that comes with, as previously said, probably has an incandescent bulb. Instead of getting a fluorescent hood, you might consider just using compact fluorescent bulbs in the $25 tank. They use the same socket, but compact fluorescents will provide FAR more intense light with potentially the correct spectrum. For spectrum, anything between 5,500K and 6,700K OR 10,000K should be fine. These spectrum ranges will best support photosyntesis. For a 10 gallon tank, it will be a 15 watt bulb, which is fine for the route you're taking.
Anacharis usually sells for less than $5 (depends on how much). Other good plants are Java Moss, Java Fern, Water Sprite (grows quickly), Anubias (grows VERY slowly), Banana Plant (Nymphoides aquatica), Lilies (Nymphaea species), Crypts, Saggitaria, Vallisneria, and most Swords (Echinodorus species). All the plants listed should be relatively innexpensive, depending on where you buy them.
Also, consider adding a liquid fertilizer to aid plant growth. Flourish is GREAT (and VERY concentrated), but there are many others out there. For that size tank, you should probably get a measured (in mL) syringe to make dosing easier.
