What is a powerhead filter?
I'm thinking about getting a JEBO AP1200F Internal Aquarium Filter, but I don't understand how it works. Do I need to buy a separate powerhead, or do I just put it in the tank and plug it in? Does anyone know how the different types of filter work as I want something cheap and effective and want to buy it all in one go and inatall asap.
I'm not familiar with this particular model but you don't need a separate powerhead with internal filters. Just plug it in and away you go.
The best sort of filters (and by far the most expensive) are external power filters which sit outside the tank. They filter the water chemically, mechanically and biologically too, generally using 3 different kinds of media.
At the end of the day you get what you pay for and as long as you don't overstock your tank, an internal filter should suffice. Just remember to clean the sponge in tank water that you have removed to maintain the biological aspect of it. It may also have a compartment or other means to insert other types of media such as carbon pads too.
