Use End Cap Displays to Sell other Merchandise when you Own a Dollar Store
If you own a dollar store then you know the challenge of continually building sales in your store. In fact growing year-to-year sales is one of the most important actions you need to take to have a healthy and profitable business. But how do you build sales without going broke on advertising costs? One of the best ways to build sales is to increase the average sale size for your store. That’s right, if every shopper would just buy one more items and you make 200 sales per day, you’ve increased your daily sales by $200! But how is that accomplished? In this article I present use end cap displays to sell other merchandise when you open a dollar store, which is one of the most effective strategies.
When you own a dollar store it is important that you start looking at your end caps as more than a location to promote merchandise. Sure that remains an important part of their purpose. However start leveraging the end caps in your store for even more. Start building sales of related products.
For example, if you are offered a great deal on a household cleaner by one of your suppliers take advantage of that opportunity. One effective tactic for this buying opportunity, even if you don’t normally carry that product is to use it to sell other cleaners for you. Build an end cap of that one-time product directly next to the household cleaner aisle of your store. Then move your old standby products directly next to the new items and watch the sales soar.
Let’s examine another household cleaner example. What do you do your regular vendor offers you an old standby product at a discount? Many who own a dollar store will buy a case or two and just put them onto the shelves thinking they’ll make an extra penny or two until those cases sell out. Not you; buy enough to stock an end cap display! Then locate that end cap directly next to a fully stock aisle of sponges, household gloves, cleaning brushes and related items. Add a few attention-grabbing signs, and you’ve got the perfect formula for add-on sales.
For those who own a dollar store this same tactic can be repeated throughout the store. There are buying opportunities for items in every department of your store. Take advantage of the extra profit you’ll make on those items. However don’t stop there. Strategically locate end cap displays of those special purchases next to complementary items. Using this formula will build added sales. As you become more proficient you’ll find your average sale begins to creep ever-higher.

Which end do you cap when you check for Initial timing?
I have to check my timing in my old Mopar 360, Now I know you have to plug one end of the vacuum advance. Which end do you plug for the initial timing? The carb, or Distributor?
Then for "Total Timing", do you you leave it unplugged, and plug it back in for final timing, Or do you plug it back first for Total timing??

Take the vacuum line off the distributor and plug the line to the carb. so you don't have a vacuum leak.
Set the timing, I believe the manual gives you the specifications at idle. The vacuum advance is only to retard the timing during cruise at highway speeds, this improves economy.
To check it, hook a hand held pump to the vacuum advance while it is at idle and apply some vacuum while checking the timing with a timing light. See how many degrees it advances. The spec. for the vacuum advance is in the same book as the regular timing and carb specs. If the vacuum does not hold then the advance is leaking and will give you trouble when you set the carb, so replace it or plug the vacuum line.
Total timing or staged timing has to be done on a distributor machine to be accurate. There are a few stages to this, one is your idle/initial timing, second the curve which relies on the springs installed and the spring plates being free to move. Finally vacuum advance which only occurs during cruising with the throttle plates partially closed causing enough vacuum to make the advance work. This retards the timing under light load saving you gas (theoretically).
