Your First Saltwater Coral - Zoanthids, the Beginner Coral
Zoanthid corals are one to the most common corals that are kept by the beginning aquarist. This is probably the most common beginner coral, and they are equated in the saltwater community as being so easy to keep that they could grow in toilet water. While this is not true, Zoanthids can be kept in tanks that do have less than perfect water quality. Zoanthids, unlike SPS corals, actually do better in water conditions that have a higher amount of nitrates, or nutrient rich water.
Zoanthids are the perfect choice of first coral, they are easy to keep, and do not require special feedings. They can attain most of their required nutrients by filter feeding out of your water column. Zoas as they are nicknamed come in an assortment of colors, and generally grow very quickly. You can get a small zoanthid frag and have it become a full colorful colony in a matter of a few months.
When choosing your new coral purchase, make sure you look for coloration; your zoas should be very vibrant. Zoanthids that have any discoloration, or look like they are getting white could be going through something that is known as coral bleaching, or expelling their Zooxanthellae. Your coral should also be fully open, with all of its feeders/ tentacles sticking out. Zoas that are partially closed could potentially have zoanthid eating nudibranches, and if this is the case then you will be introducing a very parasitic creature into your tank that you will later regret. IF your coral is colorful open and vibrant then you can plan on buying and bringing the new addition home and acclimating it your tank by either means of floating the bag or drip acclimation. Remember that these are inverts, and that they will be very sensitive to any copper treatment. You also need to have very powerful lights so plan accordingly.

Good corals that are very vibrant in color?
I am looking to add coral to add more color to my 90 gallon reef. All I have are frag of pulsing xenia, frag of a brain coral, small colt, and assorted polyps. I don't care on the size because I have plenty of space but I like neon colors.
NOTE: I have a really small bubble anemone that is exiled from the corals in a rock that only one small clownfish can fit inside. And I also have a small bubble tip exiled in the opposite corner away from everything. They seem to be attached to their places and I don't think they are going anywhere soon but I hope they don't move around at all.
Ricordea are great for color. Florida ricordea have some awesome colors, like bright oranges, and tend to be less expensive than the yumas. However, Yumas come in an exception range of colors, far wider of a range than the Florida. With the right conditions, they are both easy to keep. Slow to spread compared to other softies, but still relatively easy to propagate.
Zoanthids and palythoas also offer an amazing range of color.
If you want something unique, the green polyped toadstool leather is becoming increasingly more available. A lovely variation on the leathers usually seen.
If you have the appropriate lighting, hammer corals can be found in really lovely green coloration.
If you have the time and patience to target feed every day, sun corals (*tubastrea) are gorgeous, but they can prove a bit demanding and difficult to beginning hobbyists.
Many brains come in a wide range of colors, especially the lobophyllias, many with downright neon qualities.
A trick to bringing out the neons - make sure you have good actinic lighting. Actinic really pops the colors of corals. You may also enjoy putting your actinics on a slightly different timing system than your daylights say by having them kick on an hour before daylight and kick off an hour after daylight. This will not only mimic sunrise/sunset, but it will offer you a bit of time to see the corals that fluoresce under actinics really show their stuff.
