Meeting interest differences with Aquarium and Fish
Fish lovers and aquarists agree on one perfect match – the aquarium and fish combination. The number of aquarists in the world is increasing and so is the demand of high quality aquariums for certain types of fish. If you're in a big hurry in setting up the aquarium and fish in a little too early, you could face the consequences of a rushed and poor set up. So, I'm going to talk about a mistake all too many newbies as well as experienced aquarium enthusiast make, and that is a few simple but very important tasks in setting up your aquarium and fish correctly, whether freshwater or saltwater (I've had both).
Find the right spot for your Aquarium and Fish
It sounds simple enough right? Looking for the perfect location for the tank is the key and primary aspect you shouldn’t miss out on. Every detail is important in having the perfect environment as it greatly affects the future inhabitants of the aquarium. Finding a place out of any direct sunlight is a starting point for the location of the tank. Too much sunlight results into algae proliferating in the tank. You also want to put your tank in a place that’s out of children’s routine traffic patterns within the home. A child's natural curiosity sometimes entices them to experiment and that sometimes involves grabbing fish, rocks, plants, or coral out of an aquarium. Just these seemingly minor details can save a lot of trouble down the road as opposed to not addressing them prior to the setup of the aquarium and fish.
Make Sure the Water is Ready
Before getting too excited and antsy to add fish to the tank, you MUST ensure that the water is ready. Using an aquarium water test kit to scan for ammonia, nitrate, pH, chlorine and chloramine levels is essential. Pet stores or aquarium and fish shops often test your water for you if by chance you do not want to do it. All you do is take in a fresh sample and let them do the testing. They'll give you the results and can help you with tips and supplies on getting it adjusted to safe levels for fish, live rocks, or corals. Once the tank is well established you should include regular water testing as a part of preventative maintenance. If some of the fish suddenly die, test the water to see if anything has changed.
Feeding
Tropical fish owners tend to feed their fish a little too often and they tend to do this over and over again. Overfeeding should be avoided as this could causes detrimental effects to the fish as well as tank conditions. Just because they act hungry doesn't mean they need to be fed all the time. Regularly feeding them in timed intervals would be a great idea in keeping both the aquarium and fish health at an optimum level.
Selecting Compatible Fish
In starting out as an aquarium and fish owner, you cannot expect yourself to be knowledgeable of certain of types of fish that are not compatible to others. So just ask! Mixing types that are not compatible will cause a great deal of problems in your tank. Certain fish are just naturally very aggressive. So ask or do a bit of research on your own to determine compatible species before finalizing tank mate purchases. Select fish that thrive together in similar water conditions and are compatible.
Setting up and maintaining the aquarium and fish can be extremely rewarding and enjoyable when you are equipped with the right information. For those aquarium enthusiasts who love aquarium and fish, starting out the right way can truly heighten the pleasure of owning Aquarium and Fish as well as watching them in the home you've created for them.
